Writer and Editor
A former staff writer for a daily newspaper, Karen is the wordsmith behind our blog who takes Patrick’s ideas and research to create informative and interesting articles. While Karen still loves writing human interest stories for news publications, her move into corporate work several years ago has given her extensive experience writing, researching and editing for diverse businesses and academic clients.
Outsourcing the writing of his blog to a professional writer made sense for Patrick O’Reilly, President and CEO of Padraig, but he admits he was initially worried that by bringing in an outside writer he would lose the tone and style of his own work. Karen had been editing public-facing work for Padraig so he asked her to try writing his blogs.
“Karen’s work has been spectacular — she has been great at capturing my voice and in adapting her style to suit our readers,” says Patrick. “I give Karen the topic and some suggested research on it and she takes it and writes a fantastic post about it, tailored to our audiences.”
In addition to writing and editing for Padraig, Karen writes for several other clients, including blogs and website content for an American marketing company and social media content for a non-profit El-Sistema music academy in Abbotsford, BC. She also edits for an app developer based in Vancouver, BC.
Karen holds her Bachelor of Journalism with High Honours from Carleton University and a combined degree in English Literature.
