Five Behaviours of a Cohesive Team

Help Teams Work Together Efficiently and Effectively

Diverse and even conflicting views are a strength when team members learn to better understand themselves and how they interact with others. Enhancing everyone’s understanding of what a great team looks like, using the Five Behaviors Team Profile builds cohesive and effective teams.

The Workshop Overview

Intact TeamsAn intact team is a relatively small number of people (usually from three to twelve) who report to the same person, who meet on a regular basis and are collectively responsible for results. The team members share common goals as well as the rewards and responsibilities for achieving them. Not every group is a team. For example, a group that appears to be a team might simply be a collection of people who report to the same manager, but who have relatively little interdependence and mutual accountability. will learn to work together more efficiently by becoming a more cohesive, productive and high-functioning team. This assessment-based team training workshop is based on the phenomenal bestseller, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.

The Five Behaviors Team Profile is used to help the entire team understand their strengths and areas that require greater work. That profile also includes the Everything DiSC Profile to better understand themselves and how they interact with others.

It takes time and expert facilitation by our certified coaches to bring everyone’s personalities and preferences together to form a cohesive team ready to work toward shared goals. This course is available as a 1-day short, very high-level overview or as a 3-day behaviour changing program, which is usually offered 1-day at a time over a 3-6 month period.

The 1-day version should never be used when you’re seeking change. It is, instead, great as an introduction and overview of the model to get folks started thinking about it. With the 3-day version, the payoff can be huge – for individuals, the team and the entire organization.

What Participants Learn

  • Ways to build a truly cohesive and effective team by helping individuals better understand themselves and each other.
  • To build deep trust with each other.
  • How, as a team, they score on the key components of The Five Behaviors Model (trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results).
  • What they can do to strengthen their team and improve teamwork.
  • How to make better, faster decisions.
  • Ways to tap into the skills and opinions of all members.
  • How to avoid wasting time and energy on politics, confusion about priorities and destructive conflict.
  • Strategies to encourage open discussion and buy-in.

The Workshop Modules

Module 1

Trust One Another
When team members are genuinely transparent and honest with one another, they are able to build vulnerability-based trust.

Module 2

Engage in Conflict Around Ideas
When there is trust, team members are able to engage in unfiltered, constructive debate of ideas.

Module 3

Commit to Decisions
When team members are able to offer opinions and debate ideas, they will be more likely to commit to decisions.

Module 4

Hold One Another Accountable
When everyone is committed to a clear plan of action, they will be more willing to hold one another accountable.

Module 5

Focus on Achieving Collective Results
The ultimate goal of building greater trust, conflict, commitment, and accountability is one thing: the achievement of results.

Module 6

Next Steps and Action Plan
At the end of each module the team develops their own action plan of measurable activities they commit to.  At the end of 3 days (which is the 5 modules) we review and summarize the steps moving forward.

The Personalized Team Profile

Through the online assessment that participants complete before the workshop, we are able to identify for each participant their DiSC style and how it affects their involvement in the team, and we identify how the team is doing on the five behaviours of a cohesive team. That information is provided in a complete, personalized profile for each participant.

Before and After the Workshop

In many ways, the follow-up effort after a workshop is just as important as the workshop itself. Your participants will have a great day of learning in the workshop but it’s how they apply that learning back at work, in the real world, that is going to make the difference and boost your ROI.

Setting Up Success before the Workshop

The full team completes online, before the workshop, a thorough and accurate assessment tool called The Five Behaviours Team Assessment. The assessment results in a personalized profile for each team member — part of which is highly personalized and helps them understand their own approach to teamwork, and part of which is an analysis of the full team.

Applying the Learning after the Workshop

To ensure we deliver the most success for your participants, Padraig follows-up the workshop with a number of methods including:

Follow-up emails reminding participants of different parts of the curriculum and prompting them to think about that content and to apply it in that moment at work.

Each follow-up touch point also includes tools the participant can download to apply the learning.

As well, we offer a one-day follow-up training and workshop, which is recommended 6-12 months later. That program includes an updated profile for each participant.
