This custom-tailored program is unique because it assists the new leader and the team they’re inheriting, making sure they all get up and running as a high-performing team faster, and more comfortably than they ever would on their own.

The Workshop Overview

To build a strong foundation for new leadership our primary emphasis is placed on relationship building. We help the team leader get to know the new team, each individual, as well as any existing issues and obstacles they need to know about.

The team members will also become familiar with their new leader, quickly understanding those idiosyncrasies that can take months to learn without the Accelerating Success Program. We use a coach approach to draw out concerns and expectations, followed by a carefully facilitated workshop to bring it all together.

The objective is to minimize disruption and maximize success when a new leader is hired. Our process helps executives and leaders jump into a new role managing a team, with a focus on getting the leader and the new team through that difficult transition, quickly, and ready to deliver critical success.

What Participants Learn

This is a highly customized consultative program. Outcomes vary based on what the leader and group identify as their priorities. However, there are two constants during the offsite: 

  • The team addresses issues and develops a plan to capitalize on opportunities, and strategies to manage problems.
  • The team discovers how to navigate tough conversations, communicate effectively, and manage conflict.

A Coach Approach to Leadership

Accelerating Success Program is designed to facilitate a new leader’s success as well as motivate and inspire the new team to excel.

Getting to know the team, their new leader, and challenges the team faces

The Accelerating Success Program uses a coach approach to learning, beginning with one-to-one coached interviews of each team member, the new leader, and their direct reports.

Interview questions are designed to inspire discussion around issues that need to be shared and explored between team members and the new leader. Our customized questions focus on anticipated issues, and our coaches challenge each participant to offer deeper answers throughout the one-on-one interview.

The new leader is then debriefed about what was shared, without betraying the confidentiality of our interviewees. Bringing the issues forward for the new leader to consider and present their observations.

 

Acknowledge the issues, engage in difficult conversations, and make a plan of action

Based on the new leader's observations, we lead a customized Accelerating Success workshop for the team, with a focus on how to have difficult conversations, while addressing previously unspoken issues, and developing action plans to address the challenges going forward.

The new leader has the opportunity to speak about personal goals, their vision for the team, previous experience, their first impression of the team and their reasons for accepting the role. We coach the leader to help ensure observations are delivered in an honest, open and positive way.

The team learns to have difficult conversations early in their relationship with the new leader, and is encouraged to continue share concerns as they arise, and are supported to find their own solutions to the challenges.
