About Coach Padraig
Certified Executive Coach and President, Padraig Coaching & Consulting Inc.
Patrick O’Reilly is committed to helping successful leaders take themselves and their organizations to new heights of success. "I coach and speak because I want to help leaders who have been successful in their careers to identify the the strengths that will continue to serve them well, and to nurture the under-developed skills they will need to excel further."
"My career as an executive, my travels and my work with clients across the continent have taught me this - the days are gone when an executive who excels in one or two approaches to leadership will continue to get ahead. Even our greatest strengths become a liability if pressed too far. I wish I had known that earlier in my career and I’m glad I know it now and am able to apply it in service to others.
My role is to work together with you to create a successful, connected and inspired person and to see things differently -- to find goals you haven’t found before, and the path that will lead you there. Bring your idea to me! I would love to hear it.
A colleague describes me as fierce energy in a container of calm. Clients have described me as a passionate, thoughtful listener with insightful questions to prompt their thinking, and have said the questions I ask of them haunt them for days after our meetings, allowing them to go deeper into their understanding of themselves and bringing them clarity of direction. I love hearing that."
A recognized leader in his fields of endeavour through 20 years of progressively more senior roles, Patrick O’Reilly launched Padraig Coaching & Consulting, a management consulting and executive coaching firm, in 2012.
Prior to starting Padraig Coaching & Consulting, Patrick worked as a senior executive, managing large budgets, leading and mentoring teams of people and providing management and policy advice to colleagues, senior executives and politicians.
Patrick’s career includes working in established large organizations within government, starting up new, efficient and agile knowledge based teams, negotiating then personally launching the start-up of a federal Crown corporation and now bringing together that wealth of experience in his own firm for the benefit of his clients.
Patrick has worked across Canada and understands the unique similarities and sometimes strong differences that exist regionally across the country. As well, he has worked tirelessly developing international partnerships with numerous organizations, creating international working groups, speaking and delivering papers at conferences around the world including such locations as Australia, China, Belgium, England, Denmark, Portugal and the United States. Patrick has also provided management consultancy to organizations outside Canada in places as diverse as Ghana and Australia.
Patrick has particular expertise in assisting functional leaders (policy advisors, professors, technical specialists, etc) step up to executive leadership. As well, he created the Accelerating Success program designed to facilitate rapid integration for a leader taking on a new role with a new team -- and just as rapidly helping the team to adapt to and support the new leader - which rapidly facilitates significant returns on investment for the organization.
Patrick holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Carleton University in Ottawa and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching (Certified Executive Coach) from Royal Roads University in Victoria. He is a certified coach (PCC) through the International Coach Federation and is certified to administer the EQi and EQ360 assessments, to administer and debrief 360 feedback under LEADS in a Caring Environment (a Canadian healthcare leadership program) and to administer and facilitate DiSC profile assessments and workshops.

Living with stress and anxiety can take a very real toll on our mental AND physical health if we aren’t able to manage anxious thoughts in a healthy way. We’ve all certainly had some extra worries in recent months, whether that was leading people on the frontline or transitioning folks to working remotely. And now, […]
There were a lot of lessons learned in 2020. Some people discovered something new about themselves. Some found an inner strength and drew on their resilience. Others acknowledged the fragility of health – both physical and mental. Many of us have been shaken by uncertainty – our societal bonds, our economy, our income, our healthcare […]
Usually at the end of the calendar year, we reflect on our successes and challenges and then set goals for the New Year. After the year we’ve just had, many folks are finding it hard to even consider goal setting for 2021. I don’t know anyone who predicted a global pandemic when goal setting this […]
This past year has demonstrated, more than ever, the need for emotional intelligence at work. Being able to successfully handle the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of COVID-19 has required agility from leaders and team members. But it’s not just the pandemic. We’re working today in a marketplace that is ever-changing because of new technology, […]
I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist. At times I have struggled to let go of something until it’s perfect, spending far too long labouring over every word and number at the expense of my sleep, my sanity and the emotions of those around me. I beat myself up when I don’t do things […]
How many times in life have you thought, “If I only knew then what I know now?” When you think about your younger self, what do you remember about starting your career? Try, if you can, to remember how you felt. What was exciting? What did you worry about? Think about your first “real” rung […]
As leaders, we encounter all kinds of situations where we need to have difficult conversations with team members. It’s not easy at the best of times, but it’s even harder to have difficult conversations remotely. With more people than ever working from home thanks to the worldwide pandemic, many leaders are trying to figure out […]
It felt surreal when the world shut down in March, but it feels equally strange to be reopening and returning to work when there’s still so much uncertainty about the pandemic (particularly for our American readers, with escalating numbers in the US). Now that outbreak numbers have slowed in Canada (and other countries), Canada’s provinces […]
Hands up if you’ve felt wistful seeing the calendar reminder for a big holiday that you’ve had to cancel thanks to the global pandemic or if you’re trying to reconcile yourself to a staycation — if you’re even still thinking of taking time off. The way 2020 has unfolded still feels surreal at times. My […]
Padraig’s primary office is in Winnipeg on ancestral lands, Treaty 1 territory, traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples who, prior to contact with Europeans, created and maintained important trade routes, belonged to the land and respected non-human species, thriving in a culture that was celebrated through language, ceremony, tradition and a sustainable economy. This territory is also the homeland of the Métis Nation – a nation that came to be in the late 18th, early 19th century. A nation of people of mixed Indigenous and European ancestry with its own distinct culture, language, and history.
Acknowledging this truth is important yet only a small part in cultivating strong relationships with Indigenous communities. Please see the resource links below for more history and perspectives:
